The 50th reunion was held August 24-25, 2018 with 82 classmates joining in the fun. Friday night we met at the Sugar Maple Golf Course to visit and get reacquainted. During the evening a video prepared by Phil Noble, featuring music and old photos submitted by classmates, entertained us while we were trying to identify each other. Thank goodness for name tags! We were even joined by several members of the Class of 67 and Class of 66.
Saturday morning we took a tour of the high school and discovered all the changes that have been made to the building since we walked the halls in 1968. Then later that day we met at the Country Club: social hour at 5:00 pm, dinner at 6:00, followed by a program led by emcee Phil Noble. We learned many facts about our classmates during the “Who dat?” segment that made us laugh. Gary Gray read the names of those who had served in the military and Wendy Greenwood Rowand read the names of those who were deceased followed by a moment of silence. Both of our class sponsors, George Shirk traveling from Ohio and Fred Curtis from Florida, gave interesting and inspirational speeches. We were honored to have them attend as our guests.
The decorations for this reunion were outstanding. Especially appreciated was the In Memorium table featuring each deceased classmate’s picture on a luminary.
Preceding both nights’ events, a group met out at Richmond Hill and cruised the loop downtown reliving the good-old days. Also, both nights Danny Martin was present taking numerous photos that are now being posted on this website. As is always the case with candid shots, some are good and some are funny, but nevertheless, they are all enjoyable to look at. The posed group pictures, however, are both very good. We really thank Danny for doing this each reunion.
During the meeting it was decided to take up a collection to keep the MyEvent website going. By the end of the night we had around $1000 in the basket! The subscription for MyEvent is now paid through September 2023 and there is a healthy amount in our class checking account for future reunions.
All in all, we had over 140 (classmates and guests) in attendance at our reunion events. Many attended both Friday and Saturday night. After all is said and done, we can now reflect on the good times with good friends and be proud that WE are the Geneseo Class of 1968!
